Bookmakers sponsoring football teams is not a new thing, although we were surprised to hear that EnergyBet had renewed its sponsorship of Leyton Orient. Orient who were recently relegated from the Football League 2 will be in the lowest position in the history of the club. Hoping to gain promotion again within the first season this sponsorship deal could have a massive impact.
Although the club have only ever spent one season in the top flight of English football they’ve certainly established themselves as a regular competitor in the Football Leagues. Having been formed in 1881 it is quite impressive that they’ve never dropped out of the Leagues up until this season. They were recently bought out by British businessman and Leyton Orient fan Nigel Travis which has given the fans a lot of hope for not only promotion but maybe even a long term improvement plan.
When they were in the English Football League One they were a very successful team having missed out on the play-off spots two years in a row it was third time lucky as they got the Play-Off Final in the 2013/14 season; unfortunately they lost the final against Rotherham and continued to be relegated to League Two the next season. This season they were relegated to the national league after 112 years in the Football League!
Energy Bets deal means that their logo will not only appear on Orients Home and Away shirts but will also be found at their 9,271 capacity stadium. Russell Yershon a spokesperson for EnertgyBet said; “EnergyBet are proud to continue our association with Leyton Orient and like the fans, we are beyond excited about the vision and ambition of the new owners.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the kit launch for the coming season and see the passion of not only the new owners, but also the arrival of new players who have the ambition to return Leyton Orient into the English Football League and bring the good times back. We look forward to seeing the fans wearing the shirt and being able to reward them with prizes such as hospitality packages and on pitch activities during the coming season.”
Steve Dixon who is the Commercial Manager for Leyton Orient also had his say; “We are looking forward to another season with EnergyBet. The club is hoping to be able to provide a much more enjoyable match day experience this season, and I expect EnergyBet to be part of that with a range of creative and fun activities as well as competitions for our supporters.”
We hope that EnergyBet and Orients deal continues into the future and also hope to see Leyton Orient back in the Football League where they deserve to be in the near future. With a new owner, continued sponsorship and much more things are looking a lot more hopeful! Thanks for reading and we hope to see you again soon,
