NBA Commissioner says betting on Sports will be Legal soon

After years of calling for betting on sports to be legalized in the United States, it finally looks like it may be happening. Florida has already started taking the steps to make this happen and other States are more than likely to follow suit in the upcoming years. Sports betting is one of the biggest gambling industry worldwide and would certainly bring a lot of extra revenue to bookmakers in the US. With many different major sports such as Basketball, Baseball, Football and Soccer there are plenty of sports that people could place a wager on should they choose to.

The illegal industry is currently worth Billions of dollars in the US, and every gambling company will want a piece of the pie. Not only will this be a positive for them but could also raise a massive amount in taxes! It would also stop a lot of people getting in trouble by placing illegal bets, which can only be seen as a positive. It seems as if nobody is trying to challenge the idea that sports betting should be legalized in all states so it’s only a matter of time until we start seeing this happen in our opinion!

We aren’t the only people that think this NBA commissioner Adam Silver has stated that he sees the legalization of sports gambling happening in the near future. Something which he and many other commissioners would welcome with open arms. Not only would it bring more interest to the sport but could also lead to massive sponsorship deals and much more. Silver himself is one of the biggest enthusiasts when it comes to the legalization of sports betting and has always supported it.

He has spoken about what he believes will happen in the next couple of years;  “My sense is the law will change in the next few years in the United States. People want to bet throughout the game. It results in enormous additional engagement with the fans. And I think it’s not as much at the end of the day: Are leagues being for or against sports betting? It’s more a function of being realists.

It’s a multi-hundred-billion-dollar illegal industry in the United States. And I think ultimately as the owners of the intellectual property, we’re going to embrace it and also make sure our integrity is protected at the same time.”

Hopefully we will continue to see steps in the right direction and be able to place a bet on our favorite team at sporting events in the foreseeable future. We can’t really see why sports betting is still illegal with people making billions of dollars off of it every year. So it is about time the government capitalizes on this market!
